DennisOl: Bem!

JoaoA: Ah... so it's here

VanceS slides in to home plate

DennisOl: E obrigado!

VanceS . o O ( SAFE )

DennisOl: Hey, Vance!

DennisOl: João was just asking about you.

JoaoA: Hi Vance

VanceS speaks through a clowd of brushed soil "hey howzit"

DennisOl: It's good by me. How about you?

VanceS: sorry couldn't resist the theatrics

DennisOl chuckles

VanceS: just having F.U.N.

DennisOl: Frivolous . . .

VanceS changes from cleats to sandals

VanceS: ya

VanceS: Hey Dennis, I've organized my grammar site thanks to you

DennisOl: Unadulterated . . .

DennisOl: Great!

VanceS: cleaned up now more or less

VanceS: probably less

VanceS: but all the links work

JoaoA: I have had a look at it. It's great as usual. Lots of great stuff

DennisOl: Nothing wrong with a little "free-form organization."

VanceS: it does get dated

VanceS: being static, web 1.0

DennisOl: Yes, definitely. Some sites disappear, others change their URLs.

DennisOl: I know all about "dated."

VanceS: LOL

DennisOl: I did a long links list years ago for Arizona TESOL. It's called
"A Basic ESOL Webliography."

DennisOl: Keeping current on those links is a pain.

DennisOl: I'm sure 20 to 30% of them need to be revised right now.

VanceS: I got mail from ERIC

VanceS: did you get anything like that?

DennisOl: No.

VanceS: they want to digitize their collection

DennisOl: They're well on the way to that already.

VanceS: wanted my permission to digitize stuff from the 80's

VanceS: which I granted of course

DennisOl: Hmm. Very interesting.

DennisOl: Of course!

LeanneMM joined the room.

DennisOl: Leanne!

DennisOl: Muchos abrazos!

LeanneMM: GOod morning, gents!

VanceS: but who will ever read an annotated bibliography on CALL c. 1985

VanceS: Hi Leanne

JoaoA: Hello Leanne

LeanneMM hugs all around

DennisOl: Plenty of people. Researchers, for example.

VanceS: where are you now?

LeanneMM: A belated Happy New Year to you all

VanceS: I can always check technorati and see

VanceS: that's how I can find Leanne

JoaoA: Thank you. For you, too

LeanneMM: Bacalar Quintana ROo Mexico

DennisOl: ¿Cómo estas haciendo Calvin y El Supergato?

LeanneMM: Calvin is sleeping, but fine, and Spike tiene pulgas!

DennisOl: (¡Y tú!)

DennisOl: Pulgas! Oy!

DennisOl: Fleas!

VanceS: oy

VanceS: itchy

JoaoA: lol

VanceS: similar word in portuguese?

JoaoA: Dennis, are you polyglot?

LeanneMM: yes, it's been an experience, the fleas

JoaoA: pulgas

VanceS: dennis is a multiglot

DennisOl: No, João. I'm a dilettante!

JoaoA: exactly the same

DennisOl: I love languages and try to learn as much as I can in many
languages.

JoaoA: Very good... so ho many languages do you understand and speak?

LeanneMM: Today is Day of the Kings, but also the 70th birthday of our
Mexican Dad, Don Alfonso...

DennisOl: Puedo manejar español bastante bien, y estoy empezando a
comprender portugués mas y mas.

JoaoA: muito bem

DennisOl: Day of the Kings? I thought that was tomorrow—the 6th.

JoaoA: se quiser aprender alguma coisa comigo, estou ao seu dispor.

LeanneMM: So last night, at midnight, the family got up and gathered outside
his door to sing "Las Mananitas"...

VanceS: it is tomorrow already

JoaoA: today is the 6th

JoaoA: day of the Kings

RickRo joined the room.

DennisOl: Bem, João! Let's learn together!

RickRo: Hey everyone!

LeanneMM: Hey Rick!

DennisOl: Where have my days gone?!

VanceS: hey rick

VanceS:
http://www.technorati.com/search/writingmatrix?authority=n&language=en

JoaoA: Yes, Dennis, always

JoaoA: Hi Rick

RickRo: Tudo bem , joao?

DennisOl: Hey, Rick. Tudo bem?

LeanneMM: except Calvin, who is just learning Spanish, couldn't hope to
master the words, at least learned the tune in an hour and a half, and he
accompanied us on the comb

RickRo: E joia!

DennisOl: I was convinced that today was the 5th. Oy!

JoaoA smiles

RickRo: It was only yesterday {:-{}

LeanneMM: it was fun/funny "rehearsing" in the bus, and funny when he
performed

DennisOl: Today is also Christmas for Armenians (except in Jerusalem) and
Christmas Eve for Christians following the ld (Julian) calendar--

LeanneMM: That's OK Dennis, I lost a day last week too - couldn't believe it
was Friday already

DennisOl: for example, Russians.

RickRo: I'm always loosing Sundays now that I have a different weekend....

LeanneMM: how's that, Rick?

DennisOl: Before this session started, as a matter of fact, I was working on
a "Russian Christmas" greeting that I have on the Web.

RickRo: Im in Jordan and we have Friday Saturday weekends....

DennisOl: I have a version online now, but I'm adding some explanatory
notes.

DennisOl: There are probably Orthodox in Jordan who will celebrate Christmas
tomorrow, Rick.

LeanneMM: I know what the problem is, Dennis, you have *no* schedule now
that you're retired, so everyday is like a Saturday

RickRo: True, Dennis. Not many but definitely some...

DennisOl: You're right, Leanne--but did you know that I'm technically not
retired?

RickRo: get back to the grind, Dennis!

JoaoA: Yes, that's right. They are celebrating Christmas tomorrow

VanceS: when I'm traveling I always forget it 's sunday

VanceS:
http://lianadevine.wordpress.com/2007/12/28/christmas-comes-to-mexico/

DennisOl: I've got plenty of grind right here at home!

LeanneMM: yes, I guess...but essentially the same

RickRo: smiles

LeanneMM: How did you enjoy that, Vance?

DennisOl: Right, Leanne. The only difference for me is that I'm on medical
leave and collecting benefits--while continuing to accrue years and points
toward actual retirement.

VanceS: I enjoy your blog, nice you have a record

DennisOl: I loved that post, Leanne.

DennisOl: And all the others, of course.

LeanneMM: woo hoo Dennis, good on ya!

DennisOl: Yes, it's a great arrangement, Leanne.

LeanneMM: Unfortunately, I've not written anymore over the holidays...

VanceS: watching the video

DennisOl: I love the photos you've included in your continuing account of
"The Great Trek of 2007-2008."

DennisOl: And I haven't commented on the latest post . . . but I've read it.

LeanneMM: and we have a gazzillion more that we haven't posted, but are
taking up precious hard drive space

DennisOl: I hear you on that, Leanne!

LeanneMM: who has time to go through all that???

DennisOl: Since I now know what day it is, are you having el pan de los
reyes?

LeanneMM: yep

DennisOl: (Actually, it isn't called that, but I don't remember the name.)

DennisOl: Did you get the bean (or baby Jesus)?

LeanneMM: we made one kind of tamal yesterday and are making another kind
today, and expect a lot of family and friends to show up to help eat them

RitaZ joined the room.

DennisOl: Yum, yum!

LeanneMM: Hola Rita

DennisOl: Rita!

RitaZ hugs everybody hi

LeanneMM hugs Rita

DennisOl: Abrazos!

RitaZ: hola, Leanne!!!

RickRo: ola!

JoaoA: Ola Rita

RitaZ: topic today...?

DennisOl: The topics are kind of meandering, as usual.

JoaoA: The day of the Kings

DennisOl: Or Christmas Eve on the old (Julian) calendar!

RickRo: Why don't the queens get their day?

RitaZ: ah, celebrated here, still ;-)

JoaoA smiles

LeanneMM: Dennis, It's Rosca de los Reyes, and I expect there are several
little dolls stuffed into it - it's pretty big, and bought at Sam's Club ;-)

RitaZ: kids expect to get toys on their shoes today

JoaoA: do they? where?

DennisOl: http://www.d-oliver.net/Rozhdestvo/

JoaoA: not here in Portugal

DennisOl: Ah, yes. Mil gracias, Leanne.

RitaZ: Rosca de Reyes: VERY common here

LeanneMM did not get any toys for any kids for today

LeanneMM: oops, didn't know about that, Rita

DennisOl: Do you put toys, ceramic figures of Niño Jesús, or beans inside,
Rita?

VanceS waves to Rita

RitaZ: until some few years ago..., instead of Father Christmas, we
celebrated Kings' Day

DennisOl: The Greeks do something similar for January 1st.

DennisOl: They make a special bread called Vasilopita.

DennisOl: (St. Basil's Bread)

RitaZ: some people do, Dennis, but very few

LeanneMM: I see Nina Liakos has come online, so maybe she'll join us and
tell us more

DennisOl: It's baked with a coin inside, and whoever gets the coin is
supposed to have good luck for the year.

NinaTL joined the room.

LeanneMM: Hi Nina!

RickRo: Leanne, how did you know?

LeanneMM hugs Nina

JoaoA: Hi Nina

DennisOl: When I was religious, my name day was on January 1st, and I often
made Vasilopita.

LeanneMM: hehehe Rick

RitaZ hugs room mate to-be Nina :-)

RickRo: Some people know everything!

DennisOl: She's psychic, Rick.

LeanneMM saw Nina log into Yahoo

RickRo: aha!

NinaTL hugs Leanne and Rita and Dennis and Joao and Vance and Rick

DennisOl: And some people know everything that's worth knowing! (hee hee
hee)

VanceS: maybe the online tab

DennisOl: Hey, Nina! Hugs!

RickRo: Abracos para Nina!

JoaoA: Abraços

DennisOl: Sim--muitos abraços!

LeanneMM doesn't know when or where Nina and Rita will be sharing a room

NinaTL saw Leanne on YM and suspected she might be here

NinaTL: TESOL!

LeanneMM winks at Nina

NinaTL: of course

RickRo: and I thought it was through osmosis....

RitaZ: in Manhattan, for TESOL, Leanne, like we did! ;-)

JoaoA smiles

NinaTL: Happy New Year, everyone

DennisOl: Will you be making another TESOL blog, Nina?

LeanneMM: yes, I thought about that when I realized it was 2008 already

NinaTL: Yes, I plan to!

NinaTL: unless somebody else does it first

DennisOl: Khroniá Pollá, Nina!

JoaoA: Thanks Nina. Happy New Year to you, too

DennisOl: Terrific!

RitaZ: not planning to join us, Leanne?

NinaTL: Efkharisto, Dennis!

LeanneMM: Where is TESOL this year? NYC?

LeanneMM: no Rita :-(

DennisOl: I hope you do one. The one from last year was/is outstanding.

NinaTL: Yes, in New York, making it virtually impossible for me not to go

VanceS: My son is in Mexico at the moment

DennisOl: Yes, NYC.

NinaTL: It's a 4-hour drive from here

RitaZ: yes, Leanne, we have a room to share if you come ;-)

RickRo: See you there!

LeanneMM: Where in Mexico, Vance?

DennisOl: Where in Mexico, Vance? and which son?

VanceS: I think he's just headed for Chiapas

VanceS: Dusty, the younger one

LeanneMM: hmmm Chiapas, my favourite!

DennisOl: I hope he'

VanceS: mine too

DennisOl: he's having a great time!

NinaTL: Rita and I are looking for 2 more (female) webheads (or: other) to
share our room but they have to be cozy because they will have to sleep in
the same bed

RickRo: I am partial to Oaxaca meself

NinaTL: So if you hear of anyone who is looking, tell them about it

LeanneMM advises Nina not to ask Moira

VanceS: I used to buy things in Oaxoca and then sell them back in the states

NinaTL: Moira has already booked in the same place

VanceS: to finance trips there

NinaTL wonders why Leanne said that

DennisOl: I've never been very far south into Mexico--which is odd because
Arizona shares borders with two different Mexican states.

RitaZ: Leanne and I shared our bed in Vancouver..., it was ok, wasn't it,
Leanne?

NinaTL: Isn't that slightly illegal, Vance?

RickRo: hmmm, things you had to hide?

VanceS: Leanne would have inside information

LeanneMM: When Moira and Rita and I shared, Moira refused to shar a bed with
either of us...maybe it was us, eh Rita?

VanceS: way beyond the statute of limitations now :-))

NinaTL: Some people are restless sleepers

DennisOl: My coffee cup is empty. Back in a few minutes . . . . .

VanceS: no, clothes and trinkets in the market

NinaTL: Last year I shared a room with 2 MEI colleagues and one of them
refused to share a bed

RitaZ: some poeple dont like sharing a bed..., understandable :-)

VanceS: I didn't overdo it, just used the proceeds to return

NinaTL: She said she doesn't even sleep with her husband because she moves
around so much

LeanneMM: yes, Rita, it was certainly OK, and you didn't even snore, as I
recall

RickRo: vance, that's what they all say....

NinaTL: Even if you snore, Rita, I will probably sleep through it

RitaZ :-))

VanceS: who's to say what's excessive Rick?

NinaTL is really excited about seeing Rita (and Moira and Paula and Bee...)
again

NinaTL: Vance, do you think you might make it this year?

RickRo: You've got a point.... {:-{} One man's contraband is another's
daily bread...

RitaZ: anybody else here joining the gang in Manhattan?

RickRo: I am; where's the WH party?

RitaZ: we are 10 so far

VanceS: You know Nina, I don't know

NinaTL: I didn't get a single response to my post about accommodations on
evonline2002

RitaZ: still planning, Rick

NinaTL: Great, Rick! I will be happy to meet you f2f

VanceS: I am supposed to give a talk at an academic session but they've
agreed to take it online

RitaZ: so we are 11, great , Rick!

LeanneMM: pity TESOL doesn't support their speakers financially

NinaTL: We're three months out, but maybe it's not too early to create a
blog

RitaZ: true, Leanne

VanceS: they don't even support them with Internet

LeanneMM harrumphs at that

VanceS: unless they happen to be in a TESOL sponsored event

NinaTL: My husband was saying yesterday, doesn't TESOL udnerstand that
teachers can't afford the rates at the hotels + transportation + convention
fees + restaurants....

NinaTL: It's very expensive to go.

VanceS: one year I discovered I hadn't booked a projector, which I would
have had to pay for

RitaZ: well...., here no Congresses support their speakers, unles invited...

VanceS: I actually tried to get one at the last minute

VanceS: fortunately Phil Hubbard in the audience had one in his day pack

RickRo: NYC is really expensive for sure--it'll be good to cross paths,
Nina....

VanceS: to avoid paying for his own

NinaTL: It's really amazing that 5,000 people manage to come up with several
thousand $$ each year and go

LeanneMM: well yes, invited speakers should be supported...but isn't this
where TESOL gets its speakers?

RitaZ: yes, Nina, and the effort for some of us is HUGE!

VanceS: and that speakers will ante up for equipment and etc

VanceS: and it all goes to hotels and unions

RickRo: nods

VanceS: doesn't go back into the organization

NinaTL: I am already resigned to staying home after this.

DennisOl: Yes, sad, huh?

NinaTL: The conventions are likely to be far away and I don't think I will
be able to swing it.

RickRo: I wish TESOL would go world wide again....

VanceS: I'm pretty fed up with it, esp with so many other excellent venues
on offer

RickRo: South America, maybe....

DennisOl: One year, I was in a colloquium presenting things on Web-based
ESOL.

VanceS: how about South Africa, better

LeanneMM has wondered in past where everyone's TESOL dues and convention
fees go

RickRo: We can do the world cup....

DennisOl: Even with five (or was it six?) of us, the live Net connection fee
was too steep.

VanceS listens to Dennis

NinaTL: Then I would be absolutely certain not to be able to go!

NinaTL: Do speakers pay even now for these things?

RitaZ: did you know that here we can pay with credit cards in monthly
instalements? when you buy a ticket (or whatever!!) you choose nº of months
you want to extend your pay...(up to 12!)

DennisOl: And it was also too expensive for us to have both Mac and PC
systems.

DennisOl: So we took things on CD and Zip disks.

NinaTL: at WATESOL, all the AV and internet connections are now free for
presenters

DennisOl: A very nice gesture!

LeanneMM: but Rita, what are the interest rates like?

VanceS: I don't see how you can hold a conference on education these days
without internet

VanceS: except the way Dennis did it

DennisOl: Me, either.

NinaTL: I haven't registered for the Convention yet. I should do that
before things get hairy at work.

DennisOl: Definitely, Vance!

NinaTL: And I haven't registered for anything at EVOnline yet

DennisOl: Yes, it's better to register early.

RitaZ: no interest rates, Nina! :-)

NinaTL: I've decided I will lurk in BaW08

LeanneMM: ooohhh Nina, isn't that starting pretty soon?

VanceS: Bee is really cranking up SMiELT

DennisOl: Me, either, Nina, but I'll be part of BaW08 and also one of the
blogging seminars.

DennisOl: SMiELT?

VanceS: and the blogging4educators promises to be an excellent show

NinaTL: I couldn't do BaW07 and B4B last year

VanceS: Social Media in ELT

DennisOl: Yes, definitely.

NinaTL: One of them was always being dropped

DennisOl: I did, Nina, but I don

DennisOl: don't know how!

VanceS: I'm mentoring Music and they have an interesting concept, Lee Baber
and Elderbob

NinaTL: I'd like to try something new but what with the self-study I think I
should content myself to a third round in BaW

DennisOl: There's already a lot of activity on BaW08.

LeanneMM listens to Vance

DennisOl: Probably around 80 people registered so far.

NinaTL: Really? You mean on the list?

NinaTL: That's actually the problem with BaW I think

DennisOl: Yep.

VanceS: Does BaW have an RSS feed?

NinaTL: too many people posting on the YG

LeanneMM nods

DennisOl: I'm sure it does, but I don't remember for sure.

VanceS: any YGroup has one if the message traffic is made PUBLIC

NinaTL: so it takes half a day to slog through all the messages, most of
which are social trivia

JoaoA: I registered for SMiLT and Teaching with Powerpoint

MoiraH joined the room.

DennisOl: What is SMiLT?

VanceS: the ppt session was slow starting but looks good now

NinaTL: What is SMiLT?

LeanneMM: Hi Moira

DennisOl: Bonjour, Moira! Hugs!

VanceS: Social Media in ELT

LeanneMM hugs Moira

NinaTL thinks great minds think alike and hugs Dennis

DennisOl: Ah, I see. A great topic for Bee!

VanceS: Bonjour M

JoaoA: Social Media in Language Teaching

MoiraH: Hi Leanne!!! Happy New year to you wherever you are :-))

NinaTL: Moira ma cherie, welcome!

NinaTL hugs Moira

JoaoA: Hi Moira

NinaTL: Ooh, that sounds interesting

DennisOl hugs Moira, too.

RitaZ hugs dear Moi

MoiraH: Hi Nina and hugs back Rick and Rita, Vance and Joao and Dennis :-)))

DennisOl: Well, I may try to do three sessions this year, then.

LeanneMM: still in Mexico, Moira, south of Cancun

NinaTL wonders if Moira knows that her name is pronounced [mira] in Greek
and means destiny

DennisOl: Oy!

LeanneMM: interesting, Nina

DennisOl: Yes, very.

MoiraH: Yes I do Nina - the three goddesses of destiny

NinaTL: 3 sessions will definitely have to wait until I retire

NinaTL: three?

DennisOl: And in Russian, the root "mir" means 'peace.'

MoiraH: and in the time of Shakespear, it was a noun ' the moira of someone'

NinaTL: I am pretty sure it's a different root tho

DennisOl: Meaning?

LeanneMM wonders if Vance finished telling about Lee and Elderbob's Music
program

NinaTL: interesting!

MoiraH: and then became a name for girls

DennisOl: Yes, I'm sure you're right, Nina. The name Nina is common in the
Slavic languages but it isn't related to the idea of peace.

MoiraH: in Ireland and Scotland and then of course, they emaigrated to the
States and that's why there's a Moira in Peter Pan ;-))

NinaTL: Mira, you mean?

NinaTL: You have researched this pretty thoroughly Moira--I might have
suspected

VanceS: Sorry Leanne, not much more to say 'cept could get the URL

VanceS: which would make my point

NinaTL: So did everyone have a nice New Year's?

DennisOl: re Nina, see this link:

DennisOl: http://www.andythenamebender.com/name-meanings/Nina.htm

MoiraH: Well, I've lived withit many years ;-) and everybody asks me :-)

JoaoA: Yes, thank you Nina.

RitaZ: Moi, we are 11 so far for the Manhattan party ;-), Rick is joining
us...

VanceS: did you see the unusual photoshop tutorial on YouTube?

NinaTL: Thank you Dennis, very interesting!

LeanneMM: we built an "ano viejo" and set him ablaze at midnight, which
ignited the fireworks hidden insidew

MoiraH: Yeehaa!!!!

NinaTL: That must have been fun!

MoiraH: sounds fun Leanne - tell us more

NinaTL: My husband and I went to a Greek dance as usual

VanceS: did you get a video?

LeanneMM: eventually it'll get to the blog, but...

NinaTL: no (photoshop tutorial)

LeanneMM: no video, Vance, just photos

NinaTL: How's your internet access so far, Leanne?

VanceS: it's funny and vaguely informative:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_X5uR7VC4M

LeanneMM: we sacrificed old clothes, sewed the pants to the shirt and
stuffed it all with wood shavings

NinaTL: "watches the video

MoiraH: It sounds a bit like what we do in England for Guy Fawkes, right
Leanne?

LeanneMM: had a hollow gourd for a head, but painted a face, with wool hair
and a hat

LeanneMM: yes, I think so, Moira

MoiraH: now, that we don't do ;-)

MoiraH: just a cloth haed with straw

VanceS: photos at Flickr?

LeanneMM: internet is not bad a the moment, Nina, much better in the AM when
not so many people online (they're at work and school)

LeanneMM: not yet, Vance...behind in my posting

LeanneMM blushes

VanceS: Alan Levine just left a nice post about activating slideflickr

NinaTL: This video is amazing!

NinaTL: I am so clueless about working with photos

DennisOl: Alan Levine: an amazing man.

VanceS: that tutorial is hilarious, and like so many things on You Tube,
done very well

RitaZ: Flicker is very good, Nina, and userfriendly :-)

DennisOl: He was once head of Technology for the community college district
where I used to work.

NinaTL: I use Picasa and have recently been uploading all my photos to their
webalbums, hoping not to run out of space

VanceS: http://cogdogblog.com/2008/01/05/366photos/

LeanneMM: I've enjoyed working with Photostory, but find iTunes to be a
bother for trying to export the music to PS3

DennisOl: Ah, yes--Alan Levine's blog.

VanceS: There's his post, found it in twitter

NinaTL: I've never figured out how to add music to a slideshow

DennisOl: He's an amazingly prolific blogposter.

VanceS: his 50 ways to tell a digital story is classic

MoiraH: love cogdogblog

NinaTL: Yes, I've seen that

LeanneMM: I think the problem with iTUnes is that they convert your files to
a type only they recognize and so PS3 won't take them

NinaTL: I mean the 50 Ways

VanceS: that's why I stopped using iTunes

DennisOl: Vance, when he was in Phoenix, he first posted about RSS maybe
three or four years ago.

VanceS: couldn't use the file formats

DennisOl: I think iTunes is a bother! Useful sometimes, but on the whole a
bother!

DennisOl: (and this from a Mac user)

LeanneMM: Unfortunately, Vance, that's where we decided to store all our
music while travelling - burned it all to iTunes

VanceS: I first heard about RSS from a talk Will Richardson gave on a
bloglines that Bee hosted at Elluminate

RickRo: With iTunes you can set it to MP3, but it isn't the default

MoiraH: I don't like iTunes or my pc doesn't - I haven't figured out which
;-)

LeanneMM: me too Vance, RSS

VanceS is a default kind of guy

RitaZ -))

LeanneMM ponders that

VanceS: ha ha

LeanneMM disagress with VAnce

DennisOl: However, I do have problems with Windows Media.

VanceS: in the case of iTunes

RickRo: I am a fan of iTunes, to be the dissenting voice

DennisOl: It doesn't work with Macs (though there's a workaround).

VanceS: I was not able to find the non-default MP3 setting

VanceS: in the short time

DennisOl: And it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of WM once it's been
installed.

VanceS: that my iPod Shuffle worked

LeanneMM thinks "default" implies "reactive" and considers Vance to be
"proactive"

RickRo: deviant?

VanceS: so when my Shuffle packed in I switched to iRiver and MP3

VanceS: binned both the shuffle and iTunes

DennisOl: Invents-his-own-logic?

RickRo: I use iTunes for a number of different players, on both Mac and
PC....

VanceS: I'm proactive by default

DennisOl: hee hee hee

LeanneMM: hehehe

VanceS: actually I didn't bin iTunes

NinaTL: I have been told that realPlayer takes over a computer once it's
installed

VanceS: no reason to

VanceS: nor to bin WMP, why would you want to do that

DennisOl: Rick: I guess the reason I think iTunes is a bother is because I'm
reactive: there's one default feature that I've never remembered to change:
the shuffle.

LeanneMM: well, I'm going to make a coffee and start the day. I see Dona
Mari si up, so the tamale making will surely start soon

VanceS: btw, Real Player has a great interface for setting the default media
settings

VanceS: it tells you what will play what media

VanceS: and you can change it right there

LeanneMM: also, I'm noticing my internet connection is slowing down

VanceS: or could, haven't seen it lately

DennisOl: Ojalá que tú pases muy bien el día, Leanne! Abrazos para Calvin!
Saludos para El Supergato!

LeanneMM waves good bye before her screen freezes entirely

RitaZ: , bye, Leanne, enjoy the day!! :-)

VanceS: is the fridge on the internet?

DennisOl: hee hee hee

LeanneMM: see you all when I can! Take care!

DennisOl: You, too, Leanne!

JoaoA: By Leanne

NinaTL: Have a good day/week etc Leanne!

LeanneMM winks at Vance

VanceS . o O ( only explanation for why Internet would slow down when DM
starts making tamales )

DennisOl: ROTFL!

LeanneMM now slaps her forehead

DennisOl laughs even harder

LeanneMM left the room (signed off).

RickRo: Tchau!

DennisOl: I am so glad I was able to meet Leanne f2f.

DennisOl: And Calvin, of course.

RitaZ: when was that, Dennis?

DennisOl: It was a month or two ago.

VanceS: me too, in Seattle

DennisOl: They were in the Phoenix area.

VanceS: that was a gas

VanceS: she and Rita and Moira

DennisOl: Oh, yeah, it must've been.

DennisOl: Leanne and Rita and Moira--Oh, my!

NinaTL: Vance, don't forget me

VanceS: at the hostel right outside the market in Seattle

VanceS: and NINA, yes

DennisOl: And Nina--Oh, my! Oh, my!

VanceS: I'm thinking of walking down the street with those three arm in arm

NinaTL: Does anyone know if tere and/or Daf will be at TESOL this year?

VanceS: from the hostel

RitaZ: yeah... the Green Tortoise is unforgettable :-)

DennisOl: Do you have three arms?

MoiraH: The photo of us all is great, I must admit, with the 'Father'
holding on to us under some walkway as we searched for a pub, remember?

NinaTL: Did you post that one on the blog?

DennisOl: I don't remember seeing it.

RitaZ: its somehwre, yes

RitaZ: in my photostory

NinaTL: There are so many slideshows embedded in that blog

DennisOl: Ah. Well, I'll have to revisit the blog, then!

EBobB joined the room.

DennisOl: Oh, yeah.

NinaTL: Good morning, EBob!

DennisOl: Hey, EB. Boy hoddy!

EBobB: Good mornng al.

EBobB: all

RitaZ: Hi, Bob!

VanceS: eBob

MoiraH: Hey, I posted nothing after Seattle - on the day I came back, my
best friend died and then the next week, I smashed my face in a fall - I zqs
out of qction for so;e ti;e/

NinaTL: Dennis, was that a type or a salutation?

JoaoA: Hi eBob

DennisOl: Yew awl raht?

NinaTL: typo

DennisOl: Yep. Suthrun.

DennisOl: Not a typo.

NinaTL: =?

NinaTL: howdy?

EBobB: Awl raht.

EBobB: Howdy.

DennisOl: Southern.

MoiraH: to read ' I was out of action for some time' - my keyboard will slip
from French to English and vv

DennisOl: That matty guuuuuhd, EB.

EBobB: Getting ready for EVO 08

MoiraH: Hi Bob

EBobB: Hi Moira

RitaZ: I remember that, Moi, :-(

NinaTL: Is it a dual keyboard, Moira? How does that work?

VanceS: I think in Texsus it's purty good

DennisOl: Texican and Suthrun are mutually intelligible, for the most part.

MoiraH: No, I can switch but sometimes 'it' switches for me

DennisOl: It's purdy guhd in AZ, too.

NinaTL: Dennis, I will add suthrun to your long list of linguistic
accomplishments

EBobB: Twas a balmy 79F here yesterday, and plans to be same today.

EBobB: Hard to stay inside and work.

BeyzaY joined the room.

DennisOl: Suthrun was (is?) my first dialect!

NinaTL: Damn! Here it's maybe 35 or 40

DennisOl: Beyza! Merhaba!

EBobB: May work from laptop out on the deck.

BeyzaY: Hi everyone

RitaZ hugs Beyza hi!

BeyzaY: merhaba

MoiraH: Hi Beyza

NinaTL: Hi Beyza! Sorry I missed you yesterday when I was afk

JoaoA: Hi Beyza

BeyzaY: np Nina

VanceS: Hi Beyza

EBobB: Nina, it was that here, two days ago.

BeyzaY: I hope u re all doing fine

ClaireB joined the room.

RitaZ: hi, Clari!

JoaoA: Hi Claire

NinaTL hugs Claire and Beyza too

EBobB: The weather can change really quick here.

ClaireB: hi guys

BeyzaY: Hi claire

MoiraH: Hi Claire

DennisOl: Claire! Hugs!

ClaireB hugs those who would like a hug

VanceS: hi claire

BeyzaY: so what are we chatting about today?

VanceS . o O ( looks like the day shift is showing up )

MoiraH: lol

NinaTL: anything and everything, per usual

DennisOl: Beyza: Iyiyem

BeyzaY: fine for me

DennisOl: Teşekkür ederim!

BeyzaY: iyi olduguna sevindim ben de iyiyim Dennis

BeyzaY: rica ederim

MoiraH: Are you still going to Australia Vance for the event which Bee is in
for the second time round?

DennisOl: I'll have to spend some time translating iyi olduguna . . . . ,
Beyza.

EBobB: I just read Gavin Dudenay's post on how long a computer lasts these
days.

VanceS: I'm going to Bangkok for the Future of Learning in a Networked World
aspect

MoiraH: yeah, one year :-( and a laptop

VanceS: I can't wait to get my first $200 laptop

RitaZ: not mine, folks ...;-9

VanceS: it won't have windows

EBobB: Yeah, and I thought it was a good post.

EBobB: And yesterday, I read an article on the lowered costs of laptops.

RitaZ: 200$, vance??

RickRo: The Economist just ran an article on Negroponte's 200 laptop--and
trashed it

EBobB: A new wave of machines in the 200-400USD amount.

RitaZ: a real bargain!

VanceS: it's called the $100 laptop

RickRo: The way it ran that is....

DennisOl: What's the name of Bee's event? When is the Bangkok event?

VanceS: and it probably won't run SL

RitaZ: ah

EBobB: Vance is that the Negroponte machine?

VanceS: that's one of them

VanceS: his is the OLPC, right?

MoiraH: Can't remember Dennis - TALCO and F something (help me Vance)

AnnEP joined the room.

EBobB: right.

VanceS: Target also has one

NinaTL is still in shock over Bee's sabbatical and travels

RickRo: Hey Ann

VanceS: and Intel has produced one

JoaoA: Hi Ann

EBobB: Its not really his, but built to his specifications.

EBobB: or suggestions.

MoiraH: There's also a small one by Asus I think now

ClaireB: nina, webheads flit around the world all the time

EBobB: an amazing machine.

VanceS: some run Linux

EBobB: Asus is the eee something.

DennisOl: Hi, Ann. Welcome!

VanceS: one has an os called sugar

MoiraH: the Asus runs Linux I believe

VanceS: the concept is that your computer is in the center

VanceS: and the connections are arrayed around the edge

MoiraH: Can't remember Bob

EBobB: I notice that Intel has dropped out of the race for the low cost
school oriented machine.

VanceS: that's the desktop

MoiraH: Hi Ann

EBobB: Had to to with using proprietary programs (Windows_)

VanceS: they dropped out of OLPC, did they abandon their own cheap laptop?

RickRo: I think they are looking at XT again as an OS

EBobB: Not sure Vance. It will be interesting to see if they compete at
all.

VanceS: here's the FLNW url http://flnw.wikispaces.com/flnw2_tcc

EBobB: I suspect there will be two markets....one low cost and educational
for developing parts of the world and another for the more wealthy,
advanced, high speed part of the world.

VanceS: Michael Coghlan will be there

VanceS: and also people who just want a cheap data device to haul around
airports with them

DennisOl: Thanks for the URL, Vance.

VanceS: these things are tough, btw

AnnEP left the room (signed off).

RickRo:
http://www.economist.com/daily/columns/techview/displaystory.cfm?story_id=10472304

MoiraH: Asus Eee PC 701 - thanks Bob

MoiraH: weighing 920 gr

EBobB: But isnt there also a laptop?

EBobB: or is that it.

EBobB: The PC in the title would lead one to beleive it is a PC?

ClaireB left the room (signed off).

ClaireB joined the room.

VanceS: that means per child

VanceS: One Laptop Per Child

BeyzaY: cool

EBobB: I wonder what the Eee means.

MoiraH: http://www.bestofmicro.com/actualite/23545-asus-mini-pc.html sorry
in French

VanceS: the original concept is buy one yourself, pay double, and donate the
other

RickRo: Check out the Economist article--they list some of the other
computers too.

RickRo: They have one from India for 80 bucks listed

DennisOl: I'll definitely check out the _Economist_ article. I've read a
little about this project, but want to know more.

EBobB: Dennis, I think it was you looking for a new PC?

MoiraH: Although the Asus Ee has pc in its title (in French here) it is a
laptop

DennisOl: Yes, EB. I'm going to get an Intel Mac.

EBobB: Thanks Moira, thats what I thought.

DennisOl: I thought I would have one by now, but it hasn't happened yet.

MoiraH: the price on this site is $350

ThomasLev joined the room.

EBobB: We will all be interested in seeing how you fare with that, Dennis.

DennisOl: Tom!

NinaTL: Good morning, Tom!

MoiraH: Hello Tom

RitaZ: hi, Tom!

DennisOl: Hoddy! How's thangs?

ThomasLev: hello!

BeyzaY: Hi tom

VanceS: Even reading the Economist

VanceS: the first OLPC

VanceS: can't be worse than the first Vista

JoaoA: Hi Thomas

EBobB: I have a HP media for size and speed, and an old cobbled machine for
w ork.

ClaireB: hi tom!

EBobB: and an even older laptop.

RickRo: Nothing worse that vista...

DennisOl: Thanks, EB. My PC running XP is fine for now, but will need to be
updated pretty soon, too.

EBobB: The laptop has the nickname of "turtle"

VanceS greets Tom

DennisOl: (updated = replaced)

NinaTL: like a Maryland Terrapin maybe

EBobB: I just had to replace the hard driive on my middle machine, and in
the process went ahead and installed a dual boot Ubuntu.

ClaireB: is there anything good about vista at all?

VanceS: too bad you can't reinstall hardware around your existing OS

DennisOl: Yes, definitely, Vance.

NinaTL: I have vista on this PC and it hasn't done anything bad

EBobB: Thats why I keep that middle machine Vance.

VanceS to claire "It's pushing a lot of people to macs and linux"

NinaTL: I like it sp far

EBobB: I can experiment on it with worrying that I am going to completely
loose my ability to work.

VanceS: Bobbi likes hers ok now that she is used to it

DennisOl: A recent Mac OS update has changed one of my default settings and
restoring it to what it was before would be SUCH a pain in the dupa.

VanceS: but it's like Office 2007

VanceS: you have to re-learn it

VanceS: plus it spies on you

EBobB: I havent tried Vista yet, and haven''t seen enough positive about it
to go put it in.

NinaTL: Why don't you like vista, Rick?

DennisOl: That's one of the things that I don't like, Vance: the spying.

VanceS: the original was built to fail if you didn't register it

DennisOl: And I DESPISE IT when Microsoft thinks it knows what I want to do
better than I know what I want to do.

VanceS: d-e-s-i-g-n-e-d to FAIL

DennisOl: (I'm thinking default settings in Word, for example.)

NinaTL: I agree about that, dennis, like when (c) turns into copyright when
you are making up a multiple choice quiz!

VanceS: try registering your software when your os no longer works

EBobB: Dennis, do you think that the open source products do a better job of
allowing your preferences.

ClaireB: it is all getting just too complicated

NinaTL: Word allows preferences; you just have to know how to get in there
and undo the defaults

DennisOl: Definitely, Nina. Of course, those default settings can be turned
off or changed, but what I don't like is that they're even there in the
first place!

DennisOl: Yes--like in the Tools menu.

NinaTL: I guess I appreciate some of them

NinaTL: most of the time

ClaireB: at my univ, the version of office available in the public computer
labs isn't compatible with blackboard, har hard

DennisOl: Well, yes, so do I, but I like to be able to turn them on or off
according to what I'm doing.

EBobB: As long as I can change the defaults, I am alright.

NinaTL: but sometimes in ESL we want to type errors and Word insists on
corrrecting them!

RickRo: Nina I am a Mac person, so it all looks like imitation mac to me....
To be fair, though, my wife has a computer with Vista that hasn't crashed
all that often--yet.

NinaTL: Knock on wood, mine has never crashed since I bought it in July

NinaTL: But it came with Vista installed

VanceS: the funny thing about our vista laptop

VanceS: it won't run IE

VanceS: ha ha

DennisOl: Claire: Big problems with Blackboard during the past six months or
so in the Maricopa Community Colleges--and they use an enterprise version.

NinaTL: I see no reason to install it when one already has XP

DennisOl: Amazing, Vance!

VanceS: it is

NinaTL: my other computer is still running fine on XP

RickRo: Oh yeah, the IE always crashes on her computer!

EBobB: Thats my preference Nina

ThomasLev: now that macs are like vista they crash too

VanceS: and when you try to shut it down ((IE) it tries to relaunch

RickRo: nods

DennisOl: Definitely.

VanceS: it's pathetic

BeyzaY left the room (signed off).

RitaZ: well, I like Flock very much

MoiraH: I was reading recently like people like Dell are no longer providing
the drivers for XP on machines so you're obliged to use the Vista - yuck

NinaTL wonders why some things always open in IE when Firefox is her default
browser

EBobB: I never found flock as appealing.

VanceS: the only thing I don't like about flock is there is or was no
Del.Icio.us button for it

RickRo: Flock is another browser?

DennisOl: Moira: Oy!

DennisOl: Rick: yes.

RitaZ: yep

VanceS: yeah, also open source

VanceS: mozilla based I think

RitaZ: yes, V

DennisOl: http://www.flock.com/

RickRo: mozilla sounds so ancient....

NinaTL: It sounds like a swearword

VanceS: can anyone install a delicious tag button in flock?

NinaTL: Delicious is something I haven't figure out in Vista yet

NinaTL: I am sure there is a way but I am slow...

VanceS: you can go to your acct and log on and tag sites that way

DennisOl: I just downloaded Flock . . . to add to my collection of browsers
(Safari, Camino, OmniWeb, Netscape, Firefox . . . .)

VanceS: but I like to just hit the tag button

NinaTL: That is so inconvenient tho Vance

EBobB: Opera, Dennis?

VanceS: so if I'm in flock I copy the url into Firefox and tag it there

NinaTL: Yes, I want one of those!

NinaTL: I installed one on the other PC

DennisOl: Yes, I have Opera, too, EB.

EBobB: I use opera on my cell.

VanceS: I used to use Opera, the first tabbed browser?

NinaTL: I also had a problem with bloglines but finally figured out that
there is a little B at the bottom right of my screen

NinaTL: that replaces the tag I had at the top in XP

RitaZ: Flock restores all your urls you've been browsing if your pc
crashes..., good thing

VanceS: so does Firefox

DennisOl: I like Opera pretty well, but I've learned that each browser is
better in some things than other browsers.

MoiraH: yep

DennisOl: PageFlakes, for example, won't work (on a Mac) in many browsers.

VanceS: you would learn that with your collection Dennis

NinaTL: you can't please all of the people all of the time

RitaZ: true, Nina..., it takes all sorts....;-))

DennisOl: Or even most of the people most of the time!

EBobB: I agree, Dennis and Moira, but I tend to use Firefox, since I can log
into my Firefox from juust about anywhere.

JoaoA: I am pretty happy with Firefox

DennisOl: I used to use it as my main browser, EB and João. Can't remember
why I switched to Camino as my browser of choice.

MoiraH: Firefox was giving me aches and pains recently during lots of
updates but is now working fine again

VanceS: FF is my fave, esp because if it does crash, and they all do, it
just restores

MoiraH: yes, that is nifty

ThomasLev: FF on macs was having trouble with Blogger

EBobB: Moira, Firefox went through a period of glitches but I think most
have been resolved.

DennisOl: Camino will do that, too, but it's not automatic--and I like that.
Sometimes I don't WANT to restore my previous session.

MoiraH: right Bob

JoaoA: Yes, and the many fantastic add ons it has... just amazing

VanceS: now when I turn it off I hit the red x and close all tab and
sometimes when I relaunch it offers to restore everything

ThomasLev: but the students were all on FF because Safari can no longer get
Yahoo e-mail

RitaZ: Dennis, but Flock asks you...

DennisOl: I didn't know that, Tom.

VanceS: FF is not automatic, it asks first

DennisOl: Yes, but I haven't used Flock yet, Rita.

DennisOl: (I just downloaded it a few minutes ago.)

RitaZ: worth trying, Dennis

ClaireB left the room (signed off).

VanceS: FLock is pretty much like FF except for that delicious tag icon
issue

EBobB: In fact, FF gives you a choice of which of several closed sessions to
go back to.

RitaZ: I'll see to that, V

DennisOl: Yes, I look forward to trying it out, Rita.

EBobB: However, I am thinking that may partly be an extension I installed.

JoaoA: But the delicious tag is very useful

VanceS: I am revisiting it now

MoiraH: I don't have the choice to go back to several closed session, Bob,
just the last one

VanceS: maybe they've fixed it

ClaireB joined the room.

MoiraH: if it closed for some unknown reason

VanceS: wb claire

EBobB: Moira, as I said, that may be due to an extension that allows that.

JoaoA: I have to go and have lunch right now. Wish you all a good day.
Thanks to everyone.

RitaZ: do let me know if you manage with the Delicious tag, V

MoiraH: yes, I think so - do you know which one? Sounds intereesting

VanceS: nice seeing you Joao

EBobB: Bye, Joao.

RitaZ: bye, Joao, have a nice week

ClaireB: bye joao

JoaoA left the room (signed off).

EBobB: Did Joao take everyone with him?

DennisOl: I'm still here, but I'm multitasking.

VanceS: I've been trying to break into my delicious acct on flock

VanceS: finally got it

MoiraH: and I was running to get more paper for my printer

RitaZ: bravo, Vance, how?

ClaireB: i know that we aren't suposed to discuss politics, but are you guys
following the us primaries??

EBobB: And I am about to go fix breakfast for my family....we are
celebrating one of my daughters birthday today.

VanceS: flock has fixed the problem

RitaZ: ah, great

NinaTL: I am creating the wia-in-nyc blog

EBobB: Claire, I have my screens split right now, with Tapped in on one
side, and the national news on the other.

DennisOl: Happy birthday to your daughter, EB!

EBobB: Thanks Dennis.

MoiraH: no, sorry, I'm following Sarko's shoot in popularity and now the
announcement of a possible wedding to Carla Bruni in February - that's a
pretty political choice ,-)

ClaireB: my money is on barack

DennisOl: Terrific, Nina! Your timing is perfect!

DennisOl: My pleasure, EB.

MoiraH: Great Nina!!!!!!!!!

RitaZ: GREAT, Nina!!!

EBobB: We dont hear much about Sarko here.

ClaireB: and i find it amazing that romney outspent romney by 15:1 and still
beat him

VanceS: do you guys follow the TALO list?

NinaTL: I haven't found a template I like yet so I've just left it at minima

ClaireB: i meant romney outspent huckabee

MoiraH: You're lucky, Bob ;-)

ClaireB: no, tell us about talo

RitaZ: we wonder how much people like Sarko, Moi...

NinaTL: http://wia-in-nyc.blogspot.com/

VanceS: Romney if you want 4 more years

EBobB: I wish I didnt hear much about Bush either.

RitaZ: lol, Bob

ClaireB: no, i do NOT want 4 more years

DennisOl: I'll be sure to visit it later today, Nina.

VanceS: snap

EBobB: Yes, Vance, I am an avid TALO reader.

ClaireB: well, they all know that bush isn't popular

EBobB: Its a great list.

MoiraH: idem Bob

NinaTL: I will add Moira and Rita

ClaireB: moira, isn't sarko a bush supporter?

VanceS: did you see the article on subtle games?

NinaTL: Rick and Tom I think I will need your email addresses

NinaTL: and Claire

MoiraH: I think he supports anything that glitters ;-)

NinaTL: not sure if I have those

EBobB: I dont recall that article, Vance.

MoiraH: Thanks Nina

ClaireB: oh, you mean a true politician

NinaTL: Dennis I think I will add you too as a distant participant

MoiraH: lol

EBobB: But I just glanced at my email this morning....hhavent really read it
through yet.

ClaireB: vance, tell us about talo

DennisOl: Efkharistóu, Nina!

NinaTL: EBob will you be going to NY?

VanceS: http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/magazine/16-01/ff_args

RitaZ: Nina, we can start a wiki as well, to share it with all Webheads
joining us, where we can start pooling ideas...

VanceS: it was here in my delicious, that's what made me recall it

DennisOl: Great idea, Rita!

EBobB: No, I am not a TESOL member. but I am hosting a presentation/workshop
in EVO 08

EBobB: I really had not planned to, but I got rooked into it.

VanceS: alright class, who can be the first to tell me what ARG stands for?

ClaireB: all right government??

EBobB: Thats what Homer Simpson says when he is trying to open a beer.

MoiraH: At the same time, there is Virtual Worls going on in NY but oh, the
entrance is some $500

VanceS: Claire did not read the article

VanceS: NEXT

RitaZ: well, it might stand for Argentina this end...;-)

EBobB: Something "Reality Game"?

VanceS: Ding minus points for Rita and ebob

MoiraH: argghhh, still thinking

VanceS: ebob gets half a point back and is getting warm

VanceS: Ding, minus TWO for Moira

MoiraH: Avatar Reality Generation

VanceS has to look it up to see if she got it

EBobB: Alternate Reality Game.

VanceS: BINGO to eBoB

VanceS: yaaaaay

NinaTL: Got your email Tom

MoiraH: CONGRATS Bob

DennisOl: clap clap clap clap clap

EBobB: I want to thank my mother, my family, my crew, God and especially
Wikipedia....

VanceS: eBob found the CLUES in the article

ClaireB: hooray for bob

VanceS: it's wild

MoiraH: so, what is it, duh???

VanceS: someone asked if the concept could be used for language learning

ClaireB: what article? i'm missing something

VanceS: think about it

VanceS: http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/magazine/16-01/ff_args

MoiraH: yes, I need to read it too now ;-)

VanceS: you don't teach directly

ThomasLev: ??

VanceS: your content is all buried in clues that your students need to pick
up on

VanceS: but what makes it a game is that you engineer it

EBobB: You know I marked that to read later, and havent gotten round to it
yet.

EBobB: Ill have to read it now.

DennisOl: I was about to guess "Armenian Ritual Gesture." ;-)

VanceS: we're a family group here Dennis

ClaireB: lol dennis

NinaTL: I have added Moira, Rita, Bee, Claire, Vance, Dennis and Tom as
authors

DennisOl: Or maybe "Aromanian Rutabaga Goulash."

NinaTL: Some of those are wishful thinking

DennisOl: Wonderful, Nina!

ClaireB: authors of what??

NinaTL: of my tesol blog

VanceS: of the TESOL Blog

ClaireB: ah

DennisOl: Nina's TESOL in NYC blog

ClaireB: good deal

NinaTL: I never added you to the last one
(http://wia-in-seattle.blogspot.com) because I met you too late

RitaZ: thank you, Nina, very generous of you :-)

DennisOl: Did you see the one for TESOL Seattle, Claire? It's outstanding!

NinaTL: Is there anyone else I should add right now?

NinaTL: Paula, I guess

DennisOl: Don't add Bubba Bush.

RitaZ: Rick is joining us

NinaTL: Don't worry Dennis

DennisOl: hee hee hee

NinaTL: I don't know Rick's email

RickRo: I'll be there! rpr38@yahoo.com

ClaireB: dennis, yes, i did

VanceS: Bush would have to use The Google to find The Blog and that's not
likely

NinaTL: done!

RickRo: shukran!

DennisOl: Did what, Claire? See the blog? Or add Bubba Bush? <<hee hee hee

ThomasLev: I'll be in NYC leverett@siu.eeu

EBobB: Bush still thinks a "Google" is how one laughs at a minor joke.

NinaTL: I already have you Tom

DennisOl: Not likely at all, Vance!

ClaireB: saw the blog. (Nina, yes, I think you and i met on the last day in
seattle)

RitaZ: ah, Michael Coghlan and Jonathan Finkelstein will also be there!

NinaTL: but Blogger is not cooperating. It's telling me I have more than
one @ in one of the addresses but I don't

ThomasLev: Happy New Year btw

DennisOl: (Couldn't resist my warped attempt at humor, Claire.)

ThomasLev: Happy Epiphany too Dennis

NinaTL: I don't have emails for those guys

EBobB: When asked about "Googling", Bush said he prefered a "Dont ask, dont
tell" policy.

ClaireB: sorry i'm so literal, dennis, lol

ClaireB: happy new year to all

RitaZ: michaelc@chariot.net.au

DennisOl: And it's Happy Christmas Eve to those who celebrate on the old
(Julian) calendar, Tom!

VanceS: happy new year claire

EBobB: Well, I am outta here, before Bush reads my last comment and cuts my
high speed off.

DennisOl: http://www.d-oliver.net/Rozhdestvo/

MoiraH: lol Bye Bob

VanceS: happy islamic new year coming up shortly

RitaZ: jonathan@learningtimes.org

RitaZ: there you are, Nina ;-9

EBobB: Bye all.

RitaZ: bye, Bob

DennisOl: Take care, EB. Always great to jaw with you.

VanceS waves to all departing

EBobB left the room (signed off).

MoiraH: brb

VanceS: with experience, you manage to get those off while the person is
still here

DennisOl: Right, Vance. And Armenian Christmas will be on Jan. 19th in
Jerusalem, but it's today in most other parts of the world.

RickRo: Tchao!

RickRo: for now

VanceS: Gesundheit

DennisOl: I was at a party once where there were lots of Greeks and
Russians.

ThomasLev: We Old Beleivers celebrate all twelve days of them

NinaTL: I am adding people one at a time (grrr)

DennisOl: When things started to get lively, a Greek said "Yassou!"

DennisOl: And a Russian said (looking down his nose) "Gesundheit!"

DennisOl: true story

DennisOl: But the Old Believers start their celebration today and extend it
to January 19th.

RickRo: I have to take off too. Anyone in Cairo for the AUC conference next
week?

VanceS: now, in BKK for FLNW

VanceS: no I meant

DennisOl: I'm sure it'll be a terrific conference, Rick. Enjoy!

VanceS: I'm supposed to be in Sudan now

ThomasLev: actually I'm an old mistaken beleiver

VanceS: but that doesn't seem to be happening

DennisOl: Tom: LOL!

DennisOl: Luvit!

RickRo: Shukran--you better get walkin' Vance i'ts a ways!

ClaireB: vance, are you in sudan?

RickRo: Waves

NinaTL: OK I've added successfully: Moira, Michael, Paula, Rick, Jonathan,
Tom, Rita, Vance, Bee and Claire

ThomasLev: so the twelve days start today?

VanceS: no, visa has one more day to materialize

VanceS: rebooked to fly Tue

NinaTL: It wanted commas (blush)

VanceS: but I don't think it will appear

NinaTL: What about Carla A?

RickRo: Thanks Nina--what a crew!

DennisOl: She'll be there.

ClaireB: why not, vance?

RickRo: Waves

DennisOl: As far as I know.

DennisOl: Chau, Rick!

RickRo left the room (signed off).

ClaireB: bye rick

DennisOl: Tchau, I mean.

VanceS: it's this part of the world claire

NinaTL: Can anybody remember how to get my profile off the blog?

RitaZ: so Clari, you'll be in TESOL?

ClaireB: well, my part of the world ain't all that efficient either

VanceS: that's true claire, as I found out in California

ClaireB: i will be at tesol for at least one day.

NinaTL: I thought it would disappear when I added all the authors but it
didn't

ClaireB: how about you, rita?

VanceS: it's your blog Nina

VanceS: you own it

RitaZ: hopefully then we'll meet f2f this time!!!

VanceS: created it

ClaireB: yes, i hope so

NinaTL: But I don't want to own it so publically

NinaTL: It's a collaborative blog

RitaZ: I guess you cant, Nina

NinaTL: I know there must be a way to "not show profile"

VanceS: unless you fiddle with the template

ThomasLev: go into html

NinaTL: because I have otehr blogs without my stupid profile on them

VanceS: if you can find where the profile info displays

ThomasLev: & wipe it out

ClaireB: i just received your invite, nina; thanks

NinaTL: I am sure I never did that!

VanceS: as Tom is suggesting

NinaTL: yw Claire

ClaireB: it's ok to have your profile, isn't it?

VanceS: credit where credit is due

DennisOl: Nina: Can't you go to "Edit my profile" and uncheck "Share my
profile"?

NinaTL: OK I got it

NinaTL: Template, remove page element

RitaZ: congrats, Nina!

NinaTL: Done

DennisOl: Yes, you can certainly do it that way. That's actually a better
way.

NinaTL: I just want to pick a different skin
